Conference Theme:
“Quality Assurance: Coming of Age -
Lessons from the Past and Strategies for the Future”

          Dear participants:

INQAAHE was inaugurated in Hong Kong in 1991. The first formal conference after the establishment of the network was held in Montreal in 1993. It is a principle for INQAAHE that its activities, i.e. biennial conferences and workshops, are held in different parts of the world to facilitate the participation of as many members as possible. After 15 years of successive events, the conference is now returning to Canada and the Conference Organizing Committees are happy to invite you to the 8th biennial INQAAHE Conference to be held from 2 to 5 April in Toronto.

In 1991 INQAAHE had 8 members. Today the total membership is more than 190. The quality assurance landscape has changed dramatically over the last 15 years. The number of national external quality assurance agencies has increased rapidly, and the external quality assurance agencies are organizing themselves in regional networks to facilitate discussions about good practice in quality assurance. Since INQAAHE’s inception higher education has also become even more internationalized and the need for quality assurance agencies to cooperate at the global level is greater than ever.

The Conference Organizing Committees are of the view that it is an appropriate time to take stock of the developments which have taken place over the last 15 years to learn from the experiences and build on these for the future. This priority is reflected in the conference theme: “Quality Assurance: Coming of Age – Lessons from the Past and Strategies for the Future”. The theme will be explored through a range of keynote speeches, workshops and panel discussions, and not least through paper and poster presentations on the conference sub-themes.

We hope that the conference keynote speeches and other plenary activities, as well as the interaction between the delegates in break out sessions will allow the delegates to discuss and reflect at length on their practices with colleagues from around the world.

The conference organizing committees look forward to welcoming you to Toronto for the 2007 INQAAHE Conference.
